Ibiza History and Culture

Ibiza shares a similarly fascinating history with its neighbours. Ibiza was a historical strategic enclave within the Mediterranean and as a result has been home to a set of different cultures that have all left their influence throughout the centuries, consequently there is a cultural contrast that is still perceptible on the island. Much of this interesting legacy has been respectfully restored and harmonises perfectly with the cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The Carthaginians first arrived in 654 BC and much of the island’s magic comes from its mythical history. In the sixties, the hippy generation stopped off here en route to Goa and Bali and made it their home. Ibiza just oozes boho-chic.

One of the most interesting routes you can take is the one that leads to the Cathedral, in the heart of the walled city which was recently declared a UNESCO Heritage site. This can be found in the monumental area of the fortified Upper Town (Dalt Vila). Step into the island’s richness and history.
