And that’s why Menorca – the second largest of the Balearic Islands off Spain’s south-eastern coast – is such a fantastic holiday destination.

First off Menorca is the quietest and most northerly of the Balearic Islands. It also has an extremely low crime rate and is thought to be one of the safest holiday destinations in the world.
It’s no secret Menorca is famous for its crystal clear waters, hidden harbours, beautiful public beaches and succession of secret coves and caves; it is also home to Mahon, the island’s capital. Today, it is a prosperous hub for tourism so if you fancy escaping laid back living for a day, Mahon is your answer. But Mahon has not always been a bustling place; it boasts a fascinating history.
Another bumper year for Menorcan airport
2007 was another bumper year for the airport in Menorca, proving the island’s continued popularity as a top tourist destination. 2.7 million passengers passed through it last year. That’s 3.2 per cent more than in 2006.
Menorca invests to welcome you!
Tourism is such an important part of the Menorcan economy that the island is investing £1.5 million into promoting it over the next year. The island council has recently taken over responsibility for promoting tourism. And it’s signed an agreement with the Baleric Institute of Tourism to invest two million Euros.
Menorca meets Formula 1
The island of Menorca should not only be famous for its beautiful beaches, hidden coves, crystal clear waters and laid back living, it also delights those with a love for fast moving motorsports – especially the Formula 1 kind. What still seems one of Menorca’s best kept secrets, the quiet Balearic Island is home to the Real Aeroclub de Mahon airstrip which has seen champions of the likes of Lewis Hamilton add an element of high speed excitement.
